Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but Prague is home to part of our European operations. And with that, you’ll have choice in how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Design, develop and deploy solutions and hands-on software development – working closely with leads, designers, and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our customers worldwide
• Primarily working on web frontend with Typescript, but may require overlap into other areas.
• Empowering other engineers through mentoring, code review, pair programming and technical leadership.
• Build efficient and reusable front-end abstractions and systems.
• Participate in engineering design and code reviews.
• Finds opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new insights and improvements that help achieve our goals

You’re probably a match if

• You are technically versatile, with diverse experience in frontend tech stacks.
• You’ve got a good balance between big-picture thinking and nailing the details.
• You are familiar wit our frontend stack of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, TypeScript, MobX, etc.
• You have firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including asynchronous programming, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
• You bring an understanding of browser rendering pipeline, event handling, WebWorkers, WebGL/WebGPU would be a bonus
• You have prior experience in working collaboratively with team members and communicating effectively.
• You possess strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
• You share a passion for performance debugging and benchmarking

About the team

This opportunity is huge – we are part of Canva Czech Republic team working on the Canva product, which helps people and businesses around the globe to create engaging visual materials. Our online mockup tool features a stellar mockup library and intuitive design tools and is available anywhere, anytime. Our mockups are the easiest way to showcase your designs on real-world products.

We’re looking for engineers who are not afraid to jump into the complex space of Canva Editor. As part of this team, you’ll be working closely with Mockups engineers as well as engineers across the company, while working on high-impact projects that elevate product visualization. We’re often brought early into some of the amazing initiatives that are happening, so you’ll get a chance to shape these.

You’ll be responsible for writing and stewarding high-quality, performant frontend code. We often work across many domains so there is plenty of opportunity to collaborate across different teams and specialties.
