Minimum Qualifications
Position Summary
We are seeking one (1) technician to assist with a project focusing on wild turkey reproductive ecology. The project will specifically be focusing on chronology of turkey gobbling, turkey movements, space use, nesting, and brood rearing in relationship to hunting on the landscape. The role of the technician will be assisting with nest monitoring, radio-telemetry, habitat sampling, acoustic surveying, and data recording and processing. In order to accomplish these tasks, the technician will work both independently and as part of a small crew. The research will be conducted on the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position
Preference will be given to applicants that have a B.S. in wildlife ecology or related field. Competitive candidates will be expected to have previous field experience with radio telemetry and wildlife tracking.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies (1) Have previous experience with radio telemetry and wildlife tracking. (2) Have previous experience with GIS. (3) Have strong interpersonal skills as daily interaction with U.S. Forest Service personnel will occur. (4) Work early mornings and late nights and weekends when necessary. (5) Have experience operating 4WD vehicles. (6) Have experience with vegetation sampling and surveys. (7) Have experience with climbing tree stands and doesn’t have a fear of heights.
Physical DemandsThis job requires working early mornings in potentially unfavorable weather conditions (cold and wet). Additionally, you should be able to lift 50lbs, operate 4WD vehicles and be able to use climbing tree stands.
