Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you’re near one), at home or a bit of both, it’s up to you.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Defining Technical Direction: owning and driving the team’s technical strategy and roadmap, aligning with broader company objectives while articulating this vision to team members.
• Leading Strategy Execution: leading the team to refine objectives and set clear goals, ensuring alignment between company goals and team deliverables.
• Driving Team Performance: maintaining a culture of high performance and accountability, breaking down goals into actionable tasks and overseeing successful delivery.
• Motivating & Aligning Teams: inspiring and aligning team interests with priorities, providing clear feedback and fostering collaboration between cross-functional leads.
• Cultivating Team Culture: nurturing a healthy and inclusive engineering culture, fostering growth and development opportunities for team members while upholding operational best practices.

• You have a proven track record in defining and executing technical strategies aligned with broader company goals.
• You have demonstrated the ability to lead and inspire teams to achieve impactful and reliable technical delivery.
• You’ve got exceptional communication skills and the capability to motivate and align diverse teams toward common objectives.
• You have a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture, nurturing growth and development opportunities.
• You have a background or demonstrated experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure and source control systems.

About the team

The Developer Platform Group owns the coding life cycle at Canva – from ideas through to production. Our mission is “To forge a delightful ecosystem for engineers at Canva, amplifying their craft and enabling them to ship fast and correct. At scale.” We create an environment in which developers can do their best work.

You’ll lead the Source Control team where the mission is to facilitate an environment for engineers to collaborate, that encourages rapid iteration and supports technical excellence.

The Source Control Team envisions a future where source control at Canva scales securely, providing flexible integrations and guiding code structure best practices. It provides all Canvanauts with an intuitive platform to submit, review and merge code changes, where feedback loops are short and actionable so engineers stay longer in the flow and get their changes integrated easily in all repositories (including our big monorepo).

In the Source Control domain, you’re the service owner accountable for leading capabilities as core source code management, code ownership, code search and navigation, code security, code integration (GitHub) and codebase structure.
