Legal Counsel – Turkey

We are seeking a dedicated lawyer to join the EMEA (Europe Middle East Africa) Legal Team and fill the role of Legal Counsel, Turkey. The Legal Counsel, Turkey will have primarily responsibility for supporting Turkey, working closely with Turkish General Manager and commercial team.

As a key member of the EMEA Legal Department, the Legal Counsel for Turkey will serve as the primary expert on legal matters within the country. This role involves supporting, guiding, and training Turkish business units and functions to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

In this capacity, the Legal Counsel will provide critical legal advice to ensure adherence to the complex laws, regulations, and codes governing the sales and marketing of medical devices in the MEA region. This includes managing interactions with healthcare professionals (HCPs), ensuring privacy and data protection, and navigating regulations related to advertising, promotion, and sales. The Legal Counsel will proactively identify and mitigate legal risks and liabilities, while supporting business strategy and operations in alignment with Align’s Policies and Code of Conduct.

This is a hybrid role with 3-4 days a week in the office in Istanbul, Turkey and will report to the VP & General counsel EMEA.

Role expectations

As the Legal Counsel Turkey, you will play a crucial role in managing legal matters and identifying potential risks to Align’s business in the markets you support. You will navigate a heterogeneous legal landscape, ensuring compliance with Align Policies, Code of Conduct, and strategy.

You will interface with various disciplines and departments within Align, including but not limited to commercial, corporate, regulatory, competition, litigation, public affairs, and compliance support, under the leadership of the VP & General counsel EMEA.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams and global centers of excellence on regional and global projects.

The key Missions:

  • Be the voice of the Legal Team in the Turkish business leadership teams he/she will sit in, 
  • Provide assistance and legal guidance to the regional business unit and local teams in order to effectively handle all operations that have legal implications and advise internal clients on appropriate legal action to be taken,
  • Review and approve Commercial pilots, Promos and Pricing, for Turkey as well as promotional materials, contracts and legal documentation ensuring they are in compliance with relevant laws and regulations and company policies, while coordinating closely with the regional team,
  • Collaborate with and support the global compliance and corporate legal teams as needed,
  • Keep the VP & Regional Counsel EMEA abreast of potential legal & regulatory issues and ensure that key stakeholders are being associated with the legal and compliance requirements through regular training and effective communication.

What we’re looking for

  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum 4-6 years’ experience gained ideally in a law firm and/or in-house environment,
  • Sound academic background with at least an LLM,
  • Qualified for admission to the bar in Turkey
  • Fluency in both spoken & written Turkish and English,
  • Experience within the medical device sector or wider pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences sectors including exposure to competition law, data privacy and compliance, preferred,
  • Experienced gained in Turkey
  • Accustomed to work across multiple geographies,
  • Result-driven, collaborative, focused, excellent in multitasking, flexible and willing to learn and adapt to a continuously changing legal environment, 
  • Solid business acumen, pragmatic, solution-oriented, and thoughtful, sensitive and persuasive interpersonal skills, a team player,
  • Experience and interest in working in an international, diverse and fast paced environment,
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience including medical, legal and highly specialized technical individuals.
