Localisation Quality Specialist — Indian Languages (AU Based)

Canva

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g’day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you’re probably keen to find out what’s on offer, so we’ll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but we engage our Contractors and Freelancers all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contractor or Freelancer at Canva, you can work fully remote, meaning you have ultimate flexibility. Wherever works for you, works for us.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

We’re looking for a Languages and Localisation expert to rapidly improve the customer experience in 7 Indian languages (Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam). You’ll partner with our translation agency and Canva’s localisation specialists in the localisation operations and quality team to create and implement a translation quality plan in these languages. This is a 3-month contract role based in Australia.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Implementing a plan to assess the current status of translation quality with support from our translation agencies and other resources/tools.
  • Prioritising efforts such as style guide reviews, quality review cadences, and other approaches to identify and address any systemic translation issues.
  • Rapidly assessing the current status of translation quality in the target languages
  • Using your expertise in languages and localisation to identify and prioritise opportunities for improving translation quality
  • Engaging with translation agencies and internal localisation specialists to align on a plan for ongoing governance

You’re probably a match if

  • You should have a good understanding of the challenges faced when translating into low-resource languages
  • You understand the needs of LOTE customers and the opportunities available to meet those needs, ideally from experience working in a localisation/internationalisation environment within a SaaS company
  • You love taking things from chaos to clarity — you’re a natural at understanding ambiguous, complex problems and communicating them simply to others
  • You also have the drive to see things through despite changes and setbacks
  • You’re great with tech (Atlassian project management tools, basic web development) and you write a mean doc
  • Speaking multiple languages is a huge bonus, as is vendor-side experience with localisation

Also, we’d love it if you had…

  • Expertise with localisation tools and processes; bonus marks for Smartling experience
  • A tertiary education in linguistics, languages, or localisation
