RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop programs optimizing our energy supply across the Live Production enterprise. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in providing low-cost natural gas, propane and electrical backup systems. Responsible to manage multiple projects, programs, and initiatives and execute on the projects. Understand our internal energy requirements and ensuring our need are being met by establishing strategic partnerships. Provide market analysis and recommendations for all future energy needs. Improve overall budget performance by reducing risk and developing strategies that enhance our supply. Lead the organization into appropriate contractual agreements by leveraging technologies and reducing costs.
- Responsible for all shavings purchases company wide. Develop and implement programs to ensure that Shavings Purchases are properly planned for anticipated production volumes. Develop long-range shaving objectives in conjunction with overall company strategies and objectives. Monitor and maintain shavings quality standards. Procure alternative products as allowed through established specifications. Effectively communicate shavings strategies with internal and external customers. Establish supplier relationships that will guarantee the best overall value.
- Coordinate the sale and disposition of litter and mortality for all Live Production. Identify customers and uses to obtain the highest price possible for the product. Schedule timely removal of litter from the farm sites and ensure permit compliance with all local, state and federal rules and policies including internal bio-security guidelines. Function as the primary contact for issues that arise with manure disposal. Responsible for reporting, billing and collections of all manure tones sol. Manage and monitor process of manure sampling, testing, manure truck weights and technical assistance in the area of Agronomy. Secure outside contractor services to assist in hauling manure. Responsible to lead the department in exploring alternative uses of turkey manure. As Federal and State regulations continue to restrict the land application of raw manure, look for strategic partnership to reduce and ultimately eliminate land application.
- Develop and implement both long- and short-range strategies for one consistent maintenance program. Determine and establish systems to properly manage internal preventative maintenance programs. Work closely with Production Managers in scheduling maintenance personnel as well as outside contractors as needed. Manage outside contractors insuring they have proper insurance, follow safety and bio-security guidelines and comply with company confidentiality agreements.
- Provide project management which includes:
- Planning PM’s / Work Orders timing. Implementation of EAM system.
- Ordering of necessary materials
- Preparing estimates and securing multiple bids
- Learning and understanding the Hormel Production System, including both foundational elements and all four pillars. Monitors site adherence to the HPS Management Operating System and Maintenance Management Operating System for applicable areas in Live Production.
- Main areas of focus for Live Production will be:
- Maintenance and Reliability
- Focused Improvement
- Within MOS, Effective Meetings and use of RAIL to manage improvement action items.
- Negotiate land rental agreements for non-turkey producing land. Manage Pifer’s Land Management agreement of leasing JOTS fields. Facilitate the sale of non-turkey producing land as required. When the Company buys or sells farmland, aide primary negotiator to ensure that all details of the sale are completed in a timely manner. This work could involve many tasks such as dealing with attorneys, environmental concerns, special considerations, taxes, feedlot permit issues, title issues, easements etc. Responsible for reporting, billing and collections of all rented land. When the Company buys or sells farms, aide primary negotiator to ensure that all details of the deal are completed in a timely manner. Act as a liaison to legislators, regulators, county commissioners, township officials and farm neighbors. Foster mutual trust and positive public relations with legislators, regulators, county commissioners, township officials and farm neighbors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- A track record of successful experience in operations and live production, engineering, quality control, supply chain or related field.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to lead by influence.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and hold others accountable.
- Proven problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence, advise and manage across cross-functional players.
- Able to drive and travel to visit locations in Live Production with possible overnight stay.
- Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred
- Knowledge of a Live Production system.
- Understanding of Energy Management and Shavings industry.
- Proficiency in Windows applications. Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.
