Job Description

The Retail Partnerships team establishes high quality partnerships to enable the best possible merchant experience. The team is focused on delivering Shopify growth through retail go-to-market partnerships that can expand the reach of our point-of-sale products.

As a Partner Manager on Shopify’s Retail Partnerships Team, you will collaborate with product management, sales, and operations functions to drive revenue growth and industry alliances; strengthening the retail partnership ecosystem.

You will be asked to contribute to craft and execute partnership strategies to generate new business opportunities for Shopify POS. In order to be successful in this role, candidates must be able to manage partners to develop merchant acquisition opportunities and be able to navigate partner organizations with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external. Leveraging your depth of partnerships experience, you will have the opportunity to influence the broader partner organization at Shopify as we develop new ways to grow our partner base and reach more merchants. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Understand the unique business goals, needs, and pain points of partners, and assist them in growing their business using Shopify’s retail products.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to identify and target potential Retail Partners who align with our product market fit. Utilize your extensive network, industry knowledge, and business development techniques to curate quality Partnerships..
  • Clearly articulate and demonstrate our value proposition, crafting detailed mutual plans, and creating excitement and enthusiasm among partners.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive growth strategies to and through partners to drive revenue growth, and achieve aggressive merchant acquisition targets. 
  • Leverage your deep understanding of partner needs and market dynamics to activate our partners effectively.
  • Collaborate with other Shopify teams within the Retail and Partner organizations to deliver the highest level of partner experience. This includes establishing and nurturing strong relationships with the Retail Sales Organization members who may be co-selling opportunities with the partners. 
  • Provide regular insights on growth performance and risks within partner accounts.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in partnership program(s) that use business development to recruit new partners as well as partner management to drive partner production
  • Established relationships within the industry with commerce agencies, technology providers, and other potential businesses that compliment the bricks and mortar retail 
  • Experience in data and operational management (pipeline management, project management, data insights analysis, CRM management, operational planning, etc.)
  • Clear communications skills to drive conversations amongst existing and potential partners, with the ability to tailor communication styles to effectively engage with diverse partner types.
  • A passion for commerce and deep commerce industry experience with a retailer, solutions partner or SaaS technology provider.
  • Experience working with a team of individuals with varying degrees of seniority and proven experience in partner performance management
  • Experience working across multiple business units, composed of many stakeholders and influencing factors
  • Proactive and accurate forecasting that helps track opportunities and set priorities with clear action plans. 
  • The ability to manage both tough and/or strategic external conversations and then equally able to manage internal cross-department process development

Nice to haves

  • Knowledge of the bricks and mortar retail industry, their strategies and business goals is a plus
  • Background in SaaS or retail tech.
  • In-depth knowledge of the competitive landscape in point-of-sale, retail technology, and commerce
  • Previous experience selling POS systems is a plus
  • Experience with MEDDICC, BANT, and Challenger sales methodologies is a plus.
