Company Description
Are you ready to be a big part of something big?
CAR Group has been driving innovation and growth since the 1990s. Collectively, our world leading marketplaces bring together deep expertise powered by the best people, data, and technology across Oceania, Asia and The Americas.
We deliver world leading technology and advertising solutions designed to make buying and selling a great experience and are the parent company of wholly owned digital marketplaces in Australia (carsales), South Korea (Encar), the United States (Trader Interactive) and Chile (chileautos), in addition to being a majority shareholder of webmotors in Brazil. With a vision to create #1 digital marketplaces for vehicles around the world, we transform how people buy and sell across the globe.
When it comes to your career, we want to provide big opportunities to help you make a big impact. But for this to be possible, we strive to feel small. Small enough to quickly change tack, small enough to learn from different departments and small enough to connect authentically with leadership.
And one of the best parts? We give you the autonomy to choose the working location that best suits your lifestyle – Office, Hybrid or Anywhere.
What’s on offer
- The opportunity to work in a global role and make real, significant impact across all our international marketplaces.
- A place where you can move your career forward and where you’ll be continuously backed to make new ideas happen.
- The support of a highly engaged, high-performing team.
- A wide range of benefits such as 22 weeks paid parental leave for primary caregivers, four weeks paid secondary caregivers leave, and six weeks paid gender affirming care leave.
- We’re proud to be recognised as one of Australia’s Best Workplaces™ by Great Place to Work®, a Family Friendly Workplace, a WORK180 endorsed employer for women and WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality.
Job Description
What you’ll do:
As CAR Group’s Sustainability Manager, you will be part of a small team that sits within the wider People and Culture team, driving CAR Group’s global sustainability strategy. Reporting to the EGM – Corporate Affairs, Employer Brand and Sustainability, you’ll help us to navigate the global sustainability reporting landscape and stay on top of our obligations to ensure that we deliver on our sustainability strategy’s mission: to operate a sustainable business that future generations will be proud of.
Your role will have particular focus on the “E” in “ESG” and reporting, although we are looking for someone who has a passion for all facets of sustainability. Some of what you’ll be working on includes:
- Working collaboratively with teams across our global marketplaces to deliver and execute on our global decarbonisation strategy, including assessing how each of our markets can meaningfully reduce their emissions and developing emission reduction initiatives that make sense and are relevant to each business.
- In conjunction with our Finance team, assisting in our preparations for the incoming mandatory Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) in addition to any future mandatory reporting that may be required of us in other jurisdictions where we have operations.
- Supporting the implementation of our carbon accounting platform and working with our global teams to calculate our GHG footprint.
- Reviewing our supply chain and engaging with our key suppliers to understand their existing carbon emissions management, thus allowing us to better measure, manage and reduce our Scope 3 emissions.
- Contributing to various sustainability initiatives that happen each year – including the production of our annual Sustainability Report, completing submissions to maintain external ESG rankings (MSCI, Sustainalytics, S&P Global CSA), and materiality assessments – and helping us to ensure that the sustainability hub on our shareholder website (which we will be building this year) is kept up-to-date with all the work that we are doing in this space.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
- A strong understanding of sustainability reporting standards, the environmental landscape, and decarbonisation strategies and approaches.
- Several years of experience working in in-house sustainability roles or consulting with an environmental and/or reporting focus.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to influence.
- An analytical and innovative thinker, you are passionate about continuous learning and process improvement.
- You have a critical eye and pride yourself on your attention to detail but can also look at things with a big picture lens and take a holistic view and approach to your work.
- A willingness to work in a global business which involves collaborating with teams across multiple time zones.
- A proactive can-do attitude – you’ll always do what it takes to get the job done.
