Program Summary

KBR supports the operational needs of U.S. armed forces at Morón Air Base in Spain and several bases in Turkey. We provide program management, civil engineering, morale, welfare, and recreation support, among other essential services. Awarded by the Air Force Installation Contracting Center, our contract spans a five-year base period with three one-year options, reflecting our commitment to excellence and operational support.

Job Summary

To serve as a Fire Crew Chief assigned to lead a crew assigned to a firefighting vehicle of significant complexity engaged in airfield, structural firefighting, crash-rescue, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Operations and assist in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards and reacting to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials as a first responder to protect persons, property, or the environment. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leads a crew of three or more firefighters, including at least one firefighter assigned to man a major piece of motorized firefighting equipment such as a pumper, Quint ladder truck, or Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations.
  • Directs firefighting crew in the operation of firefighting vehicles and equipment.
  • Directs assigned crew in the performance of crash/rescue and firefighting duties at airfields handling complex (e.g., bombers, cargo, and passenger) aircraft; the performance of structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes; and the performance of hazardous material (HAZMAT) containment and control and/or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) duties.
  • Leads assigned crew and performs emergency rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility.
  • Assigns crew members to perform maintenance of firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.
  • Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
  • Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program.
  • Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management & to enforce wear of PPE in their charge.
  • Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management, which includes, a uniform and/or protective clothing weighing up to 50 lbs & to enforce wear of PPE in their charge.
  • This position requires the employee to wear uniform and/or protective clothing weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires the employee to work under extremely adverse conditions, to include environmental conditions, working in conditions immediately dangerous to life and health which generates temperature extremes and dirty environments and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle.
  • This position requires an annual physical.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • May be required to work in the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC) & be certified as a relief dispatcher.
  • Must maintain current CPR & Emergency Medical Responder certification.
  • The work is performed in various settings, such as office buildings, warehouses, industrial buildings, or construction sites. In some areas, the employee may be required to wear protective clothing, such as masks, goggles, gloves, or shields. The work may involve moderate risks requiring the exercise of safety precautions when working around fuel transfer operations, construction sites, hospitals, airfields, etc.
  • Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as support equipment weighing 50 lbs. or more; may be required to lift/carry personnel such as an adult male (weighing 200 lbs.) in emergency situations. Duties require full use of both arms, both legs and fingers to bend, turn, pull, crawl, kneel, and climb for such tasks as use of aerial ladders, firefighting equipment controls, arranging/connecting hoses, rappelling, operation of fire truck and all types of rescue operations, etc.
  • Shall have a working knowledge of fire suppression, rescue and emergency incident techniques, operation of fire equipment, water distribution and supply requirements. Shall have a working knowledge of the characteristics of aircraft fuel propellants, oxidizers, and weapons.
  • Specialized experience must include knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, and identification. Knowledge how to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; and the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.; and of basic and specialized airfield and structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.). techniques, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of the latest changes in aircraft cockpit design, ordnance placement, and cabin layout to include the operation of hatch or canopy mechanisms, ejection seat mechanisms, and/or oxygen supply systems. Knowledge may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • Turkish Citizenship
  • Capable to speak, read, write, and understand English language “Minimum Level III”
  • High School Diploma
  • Have a current driver’s license (minimum “C” Class)
  • Fulfilled Turkish Military obligation
  • Capable of obtaining a Turkish security clearance
  • Shall meet position certifications IAW DOD 6055.06-M
  • Must have the following DOD, Pro-Board, or ISAC certifications:
  • Firefighter I & II
  • Airport Firefighter
  • Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Awareness & Operations
  • Apparatus Driver Operator – Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting
  • Apparatus Driver Operator – Pumper
  • Apparatus Driver Operator – Mobile Water Supply
  • Apparatus Driver Operator – Aerial
  • Fire Officer I
  • Fire Instructor I
  • Fire Inspector I
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
  • Munitions Fire Fighting course
  • Shall have a minimum of 5 years firefighting experience in an organized fire protection function that provides fire suppression services. At least 3 of the 5 years shall have been in an organization that provides aircraft crash, fire, and rescue services.
